Are we allowed to march to Parliament House in Canberra?
Yes. It is the democratic right of the Australian public to march in Canberra and the Australian Koala Foundation has been working with all local and Parliamentary authorities to ensure the march is safe and has the required approvals, this includes Australian Federal Police.
Can everyone come?
The March is for everyone who loves our unique wildlife and wants to celebrate and help protect them. Come one come all!
What if I live overseas?
We will host a livestream of the event on the day. You can organise your own celebration wherever you are!
What are we marching for?
The Koala Protection Act. The only thing that can protect Koala forests and the thousands of other creatures that live in them.
When and where is the March happening?
The March will take place on Sunday, September 1st, 2024 from 10am to 1pm in Canberra. We will be gathering at Kings Park and marching to Federation Mall, concluding at 1:00 pm.
How long will it take to walk from Kings Park to Parliament House?
Once the march is underway, it will take approximately 34-40 minutes to complete the route.
Will there be amenities available at the march?
Yes. Toilets, First Aid, Food and Drink vendors will be available at the march both at Kings Park and at the final destination at Parliament House.
Do I need to wear a costume?
No, costumes are not mandatory, but highly encouraged! It’s a fun way to show your love for your favourite Australian animal. You can get creative with animal prints, face paint, or even simple accessories like feathers or ears.
What if I don’t have a costume idea?
There are no limits! Think about any Australian animal you admire. You could go classic with a Koala or Kangaroo, or represent something less common like a Wombat, Echidna, or Kookaburra. Even dressing in green and khaki can represent your support for a healthy environment.
Can I bring posters, banners or signs for the March?
Yes, we encourage you to get creative and incorporate signage and banners to bring to the March. We do ask as this is an event for all ages that no profanity or offensive language be used in your messaging and anything deemed inappropriate will be removed.
How will I be kept up to date on the march and any changes / updates?
Once you have registered, the Australian Koala Foundation will be in regular contact to keep you updated on how things are progressing and if there are any changes. The website has a section for latest updates to keep all march registrants informed.
Is the March family-friendly?
Absolutely! This is a great event for the whole family. There will be activities such as face painting, live music and entertainment suitable for all ages. We also invite and encourage community, school and creative groups (dance, theatre etc) to form a group and join the March! This is a great opportunity to unite for all Creatures Great and Small.

What if I have mobility limitations?
There will be accessible areas along the March route for those who may not be able to walk the entire distance.

What are the best transport options to get to the March?
Canberra has a well-connected public transport system, making it easy to navigate the city and reach the Koala Army’s March starting point at Kings Park. Here’s a breakdown of your options:

How do I form a group?
