Koala Woman Says
People in this electorate (which includes Toowoomba and Oakey) would be shocked to think these few remaining koalas can survive when 80% of the habitat is already gone. Populations around Oakey are declining, but seem to be stable around Toowoomba and Pittsworth. Is it possible to increase the population? Probably, if strategic tree planting was implemented using our Koala Habitat Atlas. The town of Kleinton just north of Toowoomba seems to be the hotspot in this electorate, there are Koalas here making use of the patches of bush around the Cooby Dam. This habitat is highly fragmented so cars and dogs take their toll here too.
