Koala Woman Says
This electorate stretches from the northern Brisbane suburbs of Petrie, Strathpine and Albany Creek westwards to Samford, Mount Glorious and Dayboro. There are large patches of habitat in the west and around Lake Samsonvale, but wild dogs are a major problem for Koalas in these areas and Koalas have all but disappeared over the last 20 years. Most Koalas are found in the suburbs especially Strathpine and Petrie where ongoing habitat clearance for development, cars, domestic dogs and disease cause major problems for Koala sustainability resulting in dramatic declines in numbers. The remaining habitat is mostly limited to creeklines in the middle of these urban areas. This electorate is one of the major sources of Koala Hospital admissions.
