Dickson

Koala Woman Says

This electorate stretches from the northern Brisbane suburbs of Petrie and Albany Creek westwards to Samford, Mount Glorious and Dayboro. There are large patches of habitat is in the west and around Lake Samsonvale, but wild dogs are a major problem for Koalas in these areas and Koalas have all but disappeared over the last 15 years. Most Koalas are found in the suburbs especially Strathpine and Petrie where ongoing habitat clearance for development, cars, domestic dogs and disease cause major problems for Koala sustainability resulting in dramatic declines in numbers. This electorate is one of the major sources of Koala Hospital admissions.
