Koala Woman Says
This area of Victoria cannot have the 7000 animals that the Government asserts. We know that Koalas have been declining in the neighbouring McEwen electorate around Mt Macedon – Hanging Rock for years and we don’t see why things would be any different in Bendigo. Indeed, sightings are rare elsewhere in this electorate, the habitat is highly fragmented, and we do not believe the Victorian or Commonwealth Governments have any data to prove the “official” estimate, particularly since there have only been 20 recorded sightings since 2020. Look how much habitat left – that must be good news if our country wanted to protect it.
