Koala Woman Says

This electorate includes Redcliffe, Deception Bay and Bracken Ridge. Because this electorate is so close to Strathpine that was a koala stronghold, many people will think this number isn't correct. There are Koalas at Mango Hill, North Lakes and deception Bay scattered among the houses, but dogs and cars exact their toll in these highly-developed areas. In Kippa Ring at the end of the Moreton Rail Link there are Koalas, these are being relocated to other “suitable” areas of habitat using a research permit. If these are suitable areas, won’t that upset any Koalas already living there?

Further south there are Koalas at Griffin where the Moreton Bay Rail Link will result in the removal of nearly 23,000 Koala habitat trees. The Queensland Government has proposed an offset area where trees will be planted, but guess what? The offset area has been earmarked for a major new road! Why do they bother? This is where increased scrutiny by a Koala Protection Act could come into play.
