Save the Koala Day

28 September 2023 –

Hello Koala Lovers,

It is Save the Koala Day today and I hope you have enjoyed September, which in our part of the world is the first month of Spring; when of course the Koalas are looking for mates.

I also knew it was Spring last night around 3 a.m. when I heard the noises of the Channel Billed Cuckoos who turn up yearly at my place for a 3 or 4 month visit.

They are cuckoos and they lay an egg in another bird’s nest.  Last year I saw a Crow still trying to feed this huge baby that appeared out of nowhere and I do feel so sorry for that Crow – it must have been exhausting. Have a listen – it is hilarious, but not necessarily at 3 a.m. It is a boy heralding his arrival and soon it will be less noisy, just like our Koalas grunting – it is boy meets girl stuff.

I have also been on a few weeks leave which I really enjoyed. It is great to get away and I have come back very dedicated to highlight the need for a Koala Protection Act and our team are planning very exciting things for next year.

And of course, there is the launch of fabulous new merchandise with the cheeky image of a Koala designed by Reg Mombassa. Read the press release here.

I rarely wear a tee shirt, but I think I might make an exception in this case – I love the image so much.

See you next month and thanks as always for your continued support of our work.

Deborah
