December 2010

30 November 2010 –

I am going on holidays! Mr Darcy and I will be spending the next few weeks not thinking about koalas so when we return on 17th January we can go full steam ahead for their protection.

In the new year Mr Darcy is hoping to get the dogs of Australia to behave better and encourage their owners to train them better. He is becoming such a responsible little dog and I know he will be an inspiring voice in the coming years.

In the meantime we have to have some fun, and I hope all of you will do the same and have a safe and wonderful Christmas holiday season.

It seems so long ago since I was in Copenhagen, and watching the snow in London I am reminded that my experience in Copenhagen made me different. I feel this year has been our most important ever and although the koala is not listed, the Senate Inquiry is coming. This enquiry has to bring some change, and I know many of you are keen to get your thoughts on paper. I hope the template we gave you in my last diary has helped (click here for the template: word doc / pdf file).

I am at Quinlans as I write this, and I am loving the fact that our first bush tucker orchard has been planted.

In the New Year our website will highlight all the wonderful volunteers who have helped at Quinlans, and we will also be upgrading our sponsorship pages so all of you (and you know who you are) will be promoted more prominently around the globe.

I currently have 395 emails in my inbox and I want to be able to reply to them all and say Merry Christmas but I just don't have the time. So please accept my heartfelt thanks for everything you do for me, my team, and the koala.

Our camera-man JM has done a fabulous video of our year that I would like to share with you – it includes gorgeous footage of koalas, and profiles the wonderful team here at AKF who I could not do without. Please enjoy the video:

Finally, have a look at this gorgeous photo ((C) Photo by Leif I Forsberg courtesy of Luke) of a wild koala and her joey that had just crossed a busy road in the rain. Worth protecting hey?

Seasons greetings to you all.

Regards, Deborah
