Cashew the Koala’s urban walkabout

14 October 2016 –

You may have heard about Cashew this week, as this Koala’s latest walkabout in downtown Ipswich went viral. From suburban streets to the downtown core, Cashew is proof that Koalas can travel to just about anywhere when looking for love in the spring season.

“What an incredible Koala – now 11 years old (and looking very young in spirit) has dodged cars, dogs and urbanisation” commented AKF CEO Deborah Tabart OAM. “She is not the norm, but good luck Cashew. You are an inspiration.”

Cashew will be returned to her native territory in the Denmark Hill bushland reserve, where she will hopefully find a mate this breeding season.

Please keep an eye out when driving and walking dogs, Koala lovers, you never know where one will turn up!
