Koala Woman Says

Koalas are generally only found on the western fringes of this electorate in close proximity to the Chermside Hills Reserve. This is not an isolated population; Cabbage Tree Creek connects it to other patches of bush so there is opportunity for recruitment and dispersal. There have been a couple of injured Koala reports in the Bracken Ridge and Nudgee areas in the last couple of years, but in reality most Koalas in the east disappeared 30 years ago.

I would be surprised if this number is correct – it is probably lower.  It would be good to get an accurate number from the community. With less than 6% of habitat left, extinction is inevitable if the Creek corridor is lost.
