Koala Woman Says
This electorate includes the 2,500 square kilometre Otway Ranges. For years the Victorian Government used the Otway Ranges “Koala over-population problem” as an excuse to avoid greater protection for Victoria’s Koalas – they “had to many”. Now we know that the “problem” is limited to a few hundred hectares where the Victorian Government has culled over 700 Koalas. This is not sustainable management and cannot be used as an excuse against a Koala Protection Act any longer.
Elsewhere in this electorate there are Koalas at Kennett River, Lorne, Airey’s Inlet, and in the Brisbane Ranges near Meredith.
